PALS

P.A.L.S . (formerly Patients Assistance League and Service) was founded in 1980 to provide service to allow cancer patients to remain in their homes rather than being hospitalised.

There is no charge for the services of P.A.L.S. nurses, nor for the use of medical equipment and medical supplies. These services are available to all cancer patients who need them.

P.A.L.S . is not part of the Hospital, Hospice, Government or any other organization, but cooperates and works with them all to enhance the care of our patients.

How to be involved with PALS

1. Apply to become a committed volunteer.
P.A.L.S. Volunteers are needed in all areas. Can you help with drives? Could you spare a couple of hours on a Saturday in May to sell tags? Can you bake or make crafts for sale at the November fair, or could you spend a few hours helping out at the fair? These are some examples of how volunteers can help in different ways.

2. Support P.A.L.S. regular fund raising events:

  • P.A.L.S. Sponsored Walk is held annually in February. The walk is along the Railway Trail from Dockyard to Albouy’s Point in Hamilton, about 15 miles. Everyone is invited to participate by walking part or all of the way.
  • Attend the Slide Show presented by Ann Smith Gordon in March every year. All proceeds go to P.A.L.S.
  • Help with Peter Grayston’s Memorial Walk in April.
  • Help sell tags on P.A.L.S. Tag Day held in May at many locations island-wide.
  • P.A.L.S. Annual Fair in November. Help to man one of the many stalls: books, jewellery, white and golden elephant, baked goods, plants and much more. Help sell raffle tickets for many wonderful prizes.
  • Help man one of P.A.L.S. Memorial Trees of Remembrance in December in the Washington Mall and the Bank of N.T. Butterfield. Cards and decorations are provided free of charge.

3. Make a donation to P.A.L.S.

All monetary gifts, no matter how small are gratefully received. You may wish to remember a loved one by making a memorial donation in his/her name.

Legacy. If you wish to leave a legacy to P.A.L.S. you can do so when you make your will.

P.A.L.S. work would not be possible without the financial support of so many hundreds of individuals, businesses, banks, clubs, schools and other charitable organisations. We are grateful to each and every one for their contribution.
